Commuter Rail Gets a Public Hearing May 29

Posted on Monday, May 28 2007 by Heather Brandon

Residents and officials in the Hartford-Springfield region are invited to voice opinions on public transportation services at a public hearing in Enfield, Connecticut on Tuesday, May 29, 7:30 pm in the Town Council Chambers of Enfield Town Hall (820 Enfield Street, Route 5).

The hearing is hosted by the Connecticut Public Transportation Commission, one of a series of four similar hearings (PDF) being held throughout Connecticut this spring in designated metropolitan areas (Groton and Milford are next, in June). The hearings are intended to provide the commission with first-hand input from the public regarding both current and proposed public transportation services in the state.

Commission members are especially interested in hearing comments regarding the value of the proposed New Haven-Hartford-Springfield commuter rail service; plans for a commuter rail station in Thompsonville; and the lack of local bus service for Enfield (paging PVTA).
