Springfield-UMass Partnership Announcement Today
Posted on Friday, November 7 2008 by Heather Brandon
At this time last year, a report (PDF) advocating a strengthened relationship between UMass-Amherst and the City of Springfield was released. Just in via the Local Buzz Twitter feed: an agreement between the city and UMass will be formally announced today, 1:00 pm in Old First Church.
According to the media release:
Officials…will announce a new Greater Springfield-University of Massachusetts Amherst Partnership designed to revitalize Springfield’s economy and position the city in the long term as a center for environmentally beneficial green industries and to boost the city’s arts and creative economy.
Present at the event will be Mayor Domenic Sarno, UMass-Amherst Chancellor Robert Holub, UMass trustee and Urban League President Henry Thomas, Eric Nakajima of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, and Paul Kostecki, vice chancellor for research and engagement at UMass and chair of The Partnership Team.

November 19th, 2008 at 2:11 pmGreg, thanks for posting a link to your coverage.
Just today - November 19 - the city has posted its November 7 press release regarding the event. It’s quite lengthy and includes several photos. Until this week it had been nearly a month since the city had posted any press releases to its site, presumably in large part because of the communications staff changes in the mayor’s office.
